Train schedules of Yangon-Mawlamyine and Mandalay suspended due to Bago flood

As per reports, the flooding has been occurring in Bago region blocking all train routes of Yangon-Mawlamyine and Mandalay. The suspension cannot be expected when it will be relaxed.

The flood has been occurring since October 8 as rising of river water level due to the extreme heavy rain. Therefore, the flood has reached on the 500 ft train route between Bago’s station and Shwe Hla station.
Two trains leaving for Mawlamyine and Mandalay were stuck in Bago Township yesterday (October 8) due to the water reached 18 inches on the tracks.
Nearly 1,000 travelers along with those two trains were transported by buses to Yangon railway station, according to the reports.
“One train was stuck yesterday. The travelers were transported from Pyinpon Gyi to Yangon station by five buses. Then, the Mawlamyine train was also stuck. About 570 travelers were along with that train. We picked them up at Kali station to Yangon station by eight buses,” an official from Yangon station told NP News.
Similarly, the schedules for Yangon-Mawlamyine, Yangon-Mandalay were canceled today (October 9).
“Yesterday, we have to cancel some schedules. Today, the Yangon-Mawlamyine, Yangon-Mandalay and Mawlamyine-Yangon schedules were canceled again. The situation of water level is still at 18 inches on the track ways till in this morning at 6 am. The level has not fallen yet. We will check the track ways’ strength after the water level has reduced. The schedules will be resumed at that time,” an official from Yangon’s station added.
