The Ayeyarwady Bridge (Yadana Theinga) connecting Kyauk Myaung Township in Sagaing Region and Singu Township in Mandalay Region was detonated by the terrorist armed group, MDY-PDF.
The bridge over the Ayeyarwady River on the Shwebo-Kyauk Myaung-Singu-Letpanhla road was destroyed by the MDY-PDF at around 6:00 am on October 29.
It was built on April 16, 2010 and was opened on July 24, 2013, during the presidency of U Thein Sein. It is a 2,480-foot-long reinforced concrete bridge.
A local resident said that due to the detonation by the PDF armed group, the bridge was damaged in two sections, making transportation and connectivity difficult for the local community.
“The bridge was broken on the east side. The Yadana Theinga Bridge connects Kyauk Myaung and Singu. The PDFs destroyed it. The east side broke into two parts. Mandalay PDF targeted the east side because Tatmadaw troops are stationed at Kyauk Myaung. The PDFs damaged it to hinder their movement,” a local man told The Statesman.
The resident added that the bridge is currently being further destroyed by mines, causing additional difficulties for locals.
“Now that the bridge is being destroyed, crossing has become very difficult. That river crossing is important. If something like this happens, we will have to use boats or ferries to get across,” the source said.
The MDY-PDF played a key role in the Shan–Mandalay military operations, having previously cooperated with the TNLA, an ethnic armed organization.
A similar incident occurred on August 24, 2025, when the Palaung armed group detonated explosives at the Gokhteik Viaduct on the Mandalay–Lashio railway line between Nawnghkio and Kyaukme.
