The third amendment to the Union Election Commission Law was published on June 19, replacing Section 14 of the law regarding the formation of the commission at various levels.
The original section of the law, Section 14, states that the Commission shall be formed by at least three persons who are trusted and respected by the public in the formation of the sub-commissions under Section 10, Sub-section (c), and one of these members shall be assigned as the Chairperson and the relevant election officer shall be assigned as the Secretary.
Then, as amended, it is stated that “The commission shall form commissions at different levels, with at least three members comprising trustworthy persons or government employees. Among them an appropriate person shall be appointed as the Chairperson. The respective election staff officer shall be appointed as the secretary.”
