According to data from the Supreme Court of the Union, among the major crimes prosecuted by regions and states in the past year (2024), there were 852 murder cases.
Of these murder cases, only one occurred in Kayah State, while Ayeyarwady Region recorded the highest number with 179 cases, followed by Yangon Region with 151.
In addition, Mandalay Region had the third highest number of cases with 150, followed by Bago Region 111, Shan State 58, and Magway Region 56, according to the release.
According to data from the Supreme Court of the Union, in addition to murder, these serious crimes included 562 rape cases, 4,897 drug crimes, 55 human trafficking cases, deaths due to traffic accidents with 1,013 and crimes against children with 1,953.
Among human trafficking cases, Mandalay Region had the highest number with 28 cases filed, while among drug-related cases, Shan State had the most with 1,146 cases.
According to the statement, five people were sentenced to 20 years or more in prison for human trafficking offenses; 49 people received sentences ranging from 10 years or under 20 years; two people were sentenced to less than 10 years; and three others received other forms of punishment.
