Phyo (NP News) - Oct 18
The Tatmadaw has reportedly taken complete control of the northern Shan State town of Hsipaw on October 17, and military columns have entered the town.
The Tatmadaw has now re-entered the city of Hsipaw, and the local people are welcoming it with joy, the local source said.
“There are only a few left to clear. Two wards are still being cleared. We can say that Hsipaw has been recaptured. There are one group clearing them, and two groups entering the city. There are still mines left in the city. There is also the need to clear them because they are trying to burn down the Hsipaw Palace,” the above-mentioned source said.
The Tatmadaw completed the operation to capture Hsipaw on October 16. The TNLA, which had to retreat, burned down government offices in the town, including the Land Registry, General Administration, Agriculture, Prison, and Hotel Hsipaw, before retreating.
Therefore, on October 17, some of the Tatmadaw's backline forces have been able to enter Hsipaw.
The Tatmadaw has regained full control of Hsipaw today, 16 days after taking control of Kyaukme on October 1.
In northern Shan State, the TNLA, along with the Northern Alliance under the name 1027, has been waging battles and has attacked and taken control of towns in Namhsan, Man Tong, Namtu, Namhkam, Mogok, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, Nawnghkio, and Kutkai.
The Tatmadaw resumed operations to regain control of the towns controlled by the TNLA, combining airstrikes and ground offensives. The Tatmadaw controlled Nawnghkio town on July 16, 2025, and regained control of Kyaukme about two and a half months later on October 1.
The Tatmadaw continued its offensive to regain control of Hsipaw, which is now under control.
