Conflict causes 100 billion kyat losses for Ministry of Electric Power

According to data from the Ministry of Electric Power (MOEP), it has suffered losses of over 100 billion kyats due to the fighting over a period of more than four and a half years.
From February 2021 to September 2025, the MOEP in various regions and states reported that vehicles, machinery, power plants, substations, power line towers, power lines, buildings, transformers, and meters were damaged or lost due to fighting.
“There are losses to the Ministry of Electric Power due to the fighting. We don’t have a list of which regions have suffered the most,” an official from the MOEP told The Statesman.
During the damage, 250 transformers were damaged, with the maximum loss amounting to 59,271.892 million kyats.
In addition, the fighting caused damage to 49 vehicles and machinery worth 873.475 million kyats, 62 power plants worth 6097.490 million kyats, 65 substations worth 34599.265 million kyats, 387 power transmission towers worth 10163.915 million kyats, 78 miles of power lines worth 2668.982 million kyats, 457 buildings worth 2577.499 million kyats, and 4183 meter boxes worth 1240.597 million kyats.
As a result, the MOEP has reportedly lost approximately Ks117,493.115 million over a period of more than four and a half years.
Similarly, 31 people, including MOEP employees, were killed and 75 others were injured in terrorist attackes involving landmines, artillery, gunfire and other weapons.
