Phyo (NP News) - July 5
According to information obtained by the Statesman Journal, there is a strong possibility that ethnic armed groups will help with the upcoming elections held by the State Administration Council (SAC) government.
Only an election that can ensure peace and stability in the country can solve the current problem, said Set Naw Laik, a member of the central committee of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) to the Statesman Journal.
When asked about the opinion of the SSPP/SSA regarding the upcoming elections, he gave the above-mentioned comment.
“We accept the election. It is one of the options to seek and build stability in the country through the election. In choosing this option, political dialogue must be held before the election. We believe that only an election that can ensure peace and stability in the country can solve the current problem,” Set Naw Laik said.
Similarly, Brigadier General Saw Sein Win of the DKBA (Democratic Karen Buddhist Army) told the Statesman Journal that the DKBA will cooperate in the implementation of the union elections, which will be held over a four-week period starting from the third week of December this year.
The DKBA accepts the upcoming elections and will provide the best possible assistance in the conduct of the elections, he said. “As our group, we accept the holding of the elections. We will provide the best assistance. But I cannot say the same about other groups. We will provide the best assistance in the cities where our group is located,” Brigadier General Saw Sein Win said.
He said that the elections are a way out of the difficulties faced by the people due to the current internal conflicts and that if an inclusive dialogue can be held before the elections, a better election can be held.
The election will be held within four weeks, starting from the third week of December this year, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the SAC, said in his opening speech at the Peace Forum held in Naypyidaw on June 25. Regarding the upcoming election, it is initially planned to hold elections in 267 townships in the country.
