China transfers $3.3 million to Myanmar for 14 new projects under LMC Special Fund

China has officially transferred approximately USD 3.3 million to Myanmar for 14 projects, according to a funding agreement under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund (2025). The handover ceremony took place on August 5 in Nay Pyi Taw and was attended by Ms. Ma Jia, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe stated that the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) is one of the most successful cooperation mechanisms in the Mekong region. Over nine years, it has supported 984 projects that directly benefit people across the Mekong River basin.
He added that with today's official transfer of USD 3.3 million, China has now provided Myanmar with a total of USD 41.6 million since 2017 under the LMC framework.
The Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar stated that Myanmar has received the highest number of projects among all Mekong countries under the LMC Special Fund. Since 2018, it has been granted 132 projects.
China expressed its commitment to working with Myanmar to build a shared future and enhance their community for mutual benefits. The 14 projects signed today are a part of this effort, as they will support Myanmar’s development across various sectors.
Following the ceremony, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw and Chinese Ambassador Ms. Ma Jia signed the funding transfer agreement for the projects under the LMC Special Fund (2025). Nine ministries in Myanmar will implement 14 projects under the agreement. These projects will focus on diverse fields such as agricultural technology, science and technology, cultural exchange, legal cooperation, environmental cooperation, disaster management, and commercial navigation.
