Regarding the current tense situation regarding the Taiwan Question, Major General Zaw Min Tun, leader of the National Defense and Security Council's press office, said that Myanmar supports China's One-China Policy and the goal of peaceful reunification with Taiwan.
On December 31, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun announced Myanmar's four-point position on the Taiwan Question.
“Myanmar’s stance is that (1) since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, we have been the earliest country to recognize China’s independence and have consistently supported the One China Policy, which has been reaffirmed during the two leaders’ meetings. We also support China’s goal of peaceful reunification with Taiwan,” said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.
Furthermore, secondly, Myanmar and China are countries that agree to abide by the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and respect each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and make efforts to achieve this, he continued.
“As the third, in line with the policy of respecting each other’s internal affairs, we recognize that the Taiwan Question is China’s internal affair and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. We do not recognize separatist movements as they can harm regional security. We want to curb any encouragement that may lead to conflicts,” said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.
Fourthly, he added that Myanmar will always stand as a good neighbor and friend of China, a country with which it has a strategic partnership and with which it has built a community of shared prosperity. –
