U Ohn Saing, head of the Myanmar Pulses, Corn and Sesame Merchants Association, told The Statesman that the country is targeting $2 billion in revenue from its key agricultural exports—pulses, corn, and sesame—for the current 2025–2026 fiscal period.
Reports indicate that Myanmar’s agricultural sector has already achieved a major milestone, exporting over two million tonnes of pulses, corn, and sesame within the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.
Myanmar’s agricultural outlook for the current fiscal year includes a projected export volume of over 1.8 million tonnes of pulses. Regarding the corn trade, the country has already reeived more than US$400 million in revenue from shipments sent to date.
U Ohn Saing stated, "We've targeted exporting more than 3.2 million tonnes of pulses, corn, and sesame in the 2025–2026 fiscal year. So far, we've shipped over 2.4 million tonnes, leaving about 750,000 tonnes to hit our goal."
Furthermore, the association anticipates generating nearly US$500 million in additional revenue from pulses, corn, and sesame exports during the final two months of the current fiscal year.
He added, "Our calculations show th at in these two months, we plan to export enough to bring in over US$450 million—nearing US$500 million—allowing us to hit our fiscal year budget target."
While Myanmar previously maintained trade links with 57 nations for its agricultural exports, the chairman noted that the current footprint has narrowed, with pulses, corn, and sesame now being shipped to 48 countries.
He said, "Our records show we're currently exporting to 48 countries. Everyone's working to open new markets. Previously, we reached up to 57 countries, but we didn't hit that level this year." –
