Lawyers for the respective migrants allege that the Trump administration illegally deported about a dozen migrants, including citizens of Myanmar and Vietnam, to South Sudan.
The move is a violation of court rules and the lawyers are urging a judge to issue an order requiring the migrants to be returned.
The lawyers filed a lawsuit on May 19 with U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy.
Murphy has blocked the Trump administration from sending migrants to other countries rather than sending them back to their home countries.
The lawyers said that nearly a dozen migrants were flown to South Sudan from a detention center in Texas on May 19.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in an email to his lawyer that one of the people being deported to South Sudan was a Myanmar national.
The Myanmar national, identified as NM in initial records, refused to sign a notice of removal from the United States.
The records show that he did not speak English, so writing the notice in English violated a court order.
The Trump administration previously reaffirmed its policy of relocating migrants to third countries—nations that are not their own—in response to a legal challenge. The strategy is intended to deport individuals who, for various reasons, cannot be returned to their country of origin. –
