Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law revised under sixth amendment

 88

Phyo (NP News) - August 3

The sixth amendment to the Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law was announced on July 29 for the upcoming elections this year.
Among them, Section 88 of the Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law has been replaced.
Section 88 (a) states that individuals who have been convicted for offenses such as high treason, rebellion, or corruption whether sentenced to death, life imprisonment, indefinite imprisonment, or imprisonment for a term of twenty years upon being officially adjudged guilty, are declared by the Election Commission to be disqualified from standing as Hluttaw candidates. From the date of such declaration onward, they shall not be eligible to contest in any future elections for the Pyithu Hluttaw, the Amyotha Hluttaw, or the Region or State Hluttaw.
In addition, there are provisions that prohibit individuals who are disqualified from standing as candidates for the Hluttaw due to a criminal conviction from participating as candidates in any elections held during the term of the Hluttaw resulting from those election results.
Section 88 of the Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law has been added as Section 88-A, which states that if an elected Hluttaw representative is found to have made false statements in his/her nomination form or personal statement or to have forged documents while submitting his/her nomination form, he/she will be subject to legal action.
The Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law also includes provisions on nomination and announcement of Hluttaw candidates, appointment of election representatives, election rallies, and campaigning.
On July 29, the State Administration Council (SAC) has issued the sixth amendment to the Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law, the Amyotha Hluttaw Election Law, and the Regional or State Hluttaw Election Law. –
