A source familiar with the matter told The Statesman that there was even a job at KK Park that paid as much as 6,000 baht per night as torture fees.
KK Park in Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, is known as a major base where large numbers of undocumented foreign nationals operate online scams and gambling schemes. It is learned that people are forced to carry out online fraud at this site, and they are subjected to coercion and torture.

“People who can’t generate income within the scam group are beaten at first. Some people's job was to beat others. They even had written instructions—how to beat, in what manner, and at what hours. The person doing the beating also gets about 6,000 baht per night. They came back with swollen fists. Victims who were beaten too severely died. Therefore, some scammers there become traumatized,” he said.
It is learned that after victims were were tortured and became fatally injured, their internal organs were removed and sold, and their bodies were then placed in an incinerator to dispose of the remains in order to conceal the deaths.
Similarly, there are many entertainment venues such as nightclubs and KTVs in KK Park, and it was reported that Chinese people who work as online scammers often use excessive amounts of drugs and fight with each other.
“The Chinese fight each other. They are always drunk in the PnP (Party and Play) room. It is open 24 hours a day, whether there is customer or not. This is where the money comes in. Then they play slots and place bets. And they come and serve. They always maintain their level of intoxication. Some go crazy. Some fight each other. If the Chinese guys fight each other, they are each charged 200,000 baht. After that, the number of brawls decreases. The girls are from all countries. They don’t like Myanmar girls. Thai girls are the cheapest and Chinese girls are the most expensive. Filipinos and Vietnamese are second-class. They are not over 22 years old. Some even leave their girlfriends as a pledge for money. The guys at the gate are much involved in on the scam,” he continued.
In addition, ethnic armed forces are required to provide security for Chinese tourists who are engaged in online smuggling to enter Myawaddy and other sites to visit entertainment venues and restaurants.
“If a Chinese person goes into town by car just to have tea, they have to pay about two million kyat at the gate. No matter what it’s like inside, everyone wants to go out. They won’t allow anyone to leave without security. If an armed group’s member has to escort them, it costs about 1,000 baht. The total cost to go to Myawaddy is around 100,000 baht. A security officer’s salary here is higher than in Thailand. With guns and cars over here, they enjoy themselves. But now, suddenly, things have changed and they are no longer able to stay or act as they did before,” he continued.
Currently, the Myanmar government is conducting a joint operation involving security forces, administrative organizations, and local officials in the Shwe Kokko area and Myawaddy-Maehtawthalay (KK Park) areas, where online fraud and online gambling are most prevalent, to clear illegal buildings, systematically demolish and seal up seized items and illegal buildings used in online fraud and gambling operations.
