Acting President, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said in his message on the occasion of the Kayin new year day (December 19) that the entire ethnic community, including the Kayin ethnics of Kayin State, must work together to achieve the peace, rule of law, and socio-economic development that the country needs today.
The message states that since Myanmar gained independence, the legacy of colonial rule has led to misunderstandings among ethnic brothers and sisters, as well as peace and stability have been disrupted due to armed conflicts in Kayin State to this day.
The message also continues that despite successive governments' attempts to achieve lasting peace in the country, armed conflicts and violence have been prolonged due to the prioritization of narrow self-interest over the interests of the country and all ethnic people, leading to a sad situations in which the ethnic people face various forms of suffering.
Therefore, in his message, the Acting President stated that, on the part of the Union government and the Tatmadaw, efforts have been made to the fullest extent possible to maintain domestic peace and stability—considered the nation’s fundamental asset—by implementing the agreements under the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). He noted that ethnic armed organizations also participated by signing and cooperating in these efforts.
However, some are still walking on the wrong path, ignoring the truth, and they are urged to walk on the path of peace for the benefit of the country and the people. The message from the Acting President reiterates that the State and the Tatmadaw always welcome peace talks and always keep their doors open.
In addition, the Acting President emphasized that the State will continue striving, despite challenges, to achieve lasting peace, full rule of law, and sustainable development in his message.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring free and fair elections, enabling all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote, and upholding the integrity of the electoral process. The Acting President urged all ethnic communities to actively participate and contribute to the success of the upcoming elections.
