Restoration work on parliamentary structures within the Nay Pyi Taw Council area following the Mandalay earthquake is projected for completion by February 15, per sources close to the construction sector.
After the completion of the election process, Parliament is expected to convene in March. Reports to The Statesman indicate that the process will commence in the latter half of the month, specifically around March 20.
According to a source from The Statesman, the restoration work will be fully finished around February 15. "All parliamentary buildings were affected by the earthquake," the source said. "Deputy Construction Minister U Ohn Myint is personally leading the effort, with allocated maintenance funds and his close oversight ensuring completion."
Additionally, most external renovations on the buildings are finished, and repairs to the parliamentary assembly halls are nearing completion, according to a source close to parliamentary staff.
“Inside the assembly halls, almost all renovation work has been completed, and the main assembly hall has also been restored to its original condition,” the source said.
The powerful magnitude 7.7 Mandalay earthquake, which struck on March 28, 2025, damaged several parliamentary buildings in Nay Pyi Taw.
After the earthquake, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing conducted a personal inspection of the parliamentary buildings on April 1, issuing directives for their systematic repair and reconstruction.
The restoration of the parliamentary buildings began shortly after the earthquake and took nearly a year, with work now nearing completion. –
