Phyo/Pearl (NP News) - July 29

According to information obtained by The NP News from local residents, the TNLA, which has lost control of Nawnghkio, has been suppressing the public.

The TNLA has reportedly suffered losses after losing Nawnghkio town and the Tatmadaw has carried out airstrikes on TNLA bases in Kyaukme and Hsipaw towns in recent days.

“We have also seen some airstrikes. And TNLAs are moving their locations. In Hsipaw, after the airstrikes, they have started to move their positions. We have seen some arrests of young people. Phones are being searched. They are pressuring the locals more. In Kyaukme, they took away about 10 young people from the gas station the other day,” a Kyaukme resident told The Statesman.

It is reported that the TNLA is losing ground, oppressing and arbitrary arresting locals, and that locals are migrating to other townships, including Lashio.

In addition, it is reported that locals in the Nawnghkio, Kyaukme, and Hsipaw areas have become more trusting and supportive of the Tatmadaw.

“Nawnghkio is a place where people used to strongly support them. But after experiencing the reality firsthand, they came to understand the true nature of the Tatmadaw, and now there’s a sense of excitement and happiness among the locals. This wasn’t a staged event, the locals genuinely welcomed the Tatmadaw, and you can see the evidence online. People here are beginning to realize the truth and are increasingly supporting the Tatmadaw. When the Tatmadaw announced plans to reopen schools, people showed up. We’re also seeing local cooperation in keeping hospitals operational and helping clean up the city,” he added.
